History.
A long, long time ago, there was a group of fourteen knights who had gathered together in search of the long-since rumored Book of the Damned. Their goal had been to destroy it, protect it from ever seeing the light of day, to keep their homes safe from the destruction it would bring on their world.
Or at least that was their original intention.
In a quiet, abandoned cavern, the group found the final piece of the map that would lead them straight to the book. Upon reaching for it, the fourteen member of their group revealed their truth: they weren't here to destroy it, they had followed along with them to steal the book and use it further their own goals. Before any of the other thirteen was able to stop them, they set fire to the end of the cavern and escaped while the rest scrambled to get one another out.
The thirteen made a pact on the outskirts of the cavern: they would stop the one who had betrayed them, even if they had to stop them in death. Little did they know, that pact was made on old ritual grounds. While they chased after the fourteenth, they slowly started to lose each other in death. One would burn to death, another impaled on a lance, a third cut down with a sword--until there were very few of the knights left, and yet the fourteenth still stood strong.
During the final battle, only one remained. They fought against the fourteenth, but were unable to take them down before perishing themselves.
Which restarted the cycle all over: another life, thirteen friends who vaguely remembered another live where they fought hard to defend their homes against utter destruction. The fourteenth, seeking out the Book so they could use it themselves. Thirteen friends versus evil, fighting until their last breath only to reset and restart, over and over again.
What they didn't know was that while all of them were born with individual capabilities: control over ice, fire, shadow--the man with the power over dreams knew that this would happen, days before they had even taken their pact. Emmet saw the future, saw the cycle they would find themselves trapped in, and did nothing to stop it because it was the only way to keep their world from getting destroyed.
And so they continue through the cycle. Over, and over, and over again. Being reborn, having a new life, discovering who they are, only to fight hard just to perish once more.

About.
Sylvain was the third born son of a vast, wealthy kingdom that has longsince fallen. Born with cryokinesis, he is able to manipulate temperatures to cool down, create ice, and manipulate it. He joined the knights when his soulmate, Emmet, had shown an interest in bringing the land's countries together and using their social status to connect theirs with their neighbors. Originally having no interest in the stupid little book in his first life--the betrayal, subsequent pact, and watching all of his newfound friends die one after another changed that. The--rebirth added complications, but it's too late for any regrets now.

Inventory:
- a sword sheath, no blade because who would carry a sword around
- ray ban sunglasses
- two silver bands, both on his left ring finger
Powers —
Skills: Sylvain is well-versed in fencing, knows how to use a lance with precise skill, and how to swing a sword around without injuring himself or accidentally hurting others with it. He's been around long enough to pick up an extensive list of fighting skills, and a significant number of languages. His ability to blend in when necessary (a clever student, the son of an aristocrat, a paperboy just walking by, some idiot who lost his way in a hallway he's definitely not supposed to be in) is exemplary, and he's often used it to sneak his way around or get information out of others who definitely shouldn't be sharing.
Superpowers: Sylvain was born with a skill called cryokinesis; the ability to manipulate ice. He's able to use this to create weapons out of ice, use it to create a shield, trap others, or simply use it to cause others to slip and fall embarrassingly to be a dick. He's had a lot of practice with it, so his skill with using his power is pretty solid, and over the years he's learned to use it without others' catching onto what he's doing--given how many different universes frown on others with supernatural abilities.
Limitations:
→ Ice is cold and fire can melt it pretty easily. Additionally, he will eventually tire out and be unable to pull from it anymore if he's using it too extensively.
→ He's not old in body, but he's pretty old in mind. While he's adapted to his surroundings, sometimes he slips into old habits.
→ He reincarnates, but he isn't immortal. When injured it takes him the same amount of time to heal as it would any other mortal. His pain tolerance may be a little higher, but that doesn't solve his problem of bones breaking and skin being sliced into.
Personality —
Sylvain has been around for much, much too long.
Consistently restarting his progress, the process of dying and rebirth, of going from adult to child to adult then back to child is tiring, exhausting, irritating, but one he's done for so long that the irritation has dulled to an almost numb feeling regarding it. He likes being alive, he likes coming back and remembering his previous lives, likes finding his friends, the people he's closest to, likes discovering new things from new worlds and advancements from ones that he's fairly certain he's seen before given how similar they are, but remembering hundreds of lives still gets to be a little too much sometimes.
While their party doesn't have a leader, they believe in equal power, equal ability to speak up, to make decisions--Sylvain is often the decision maker who pulls others along. When others come back too tired, too worn down, he's one of the ones who reaches out to try and get them back up and drag them back in--or in Fabian's case, often let him do his own thing because he's had enough problems lately. He tries to look at the positive, but will have depressive episodes where it feels like there is no positive. And when he slips down that far, it's hard to get him back up. There are fewer people still that Sylvain is comfortable opening up to, to tell what's going on inside his head, because he knows if he starts visibly slipping, it won't be long until others falter in their quest also.
But he is determined. Relentless. Hundreds of lives later and Sylvain hasn't given up on saving everyone. Hundreds of deaths later, and he still finds it in him to want to live on, to treasure each (most) life because when he's living it, it's all he has. He can be ruthless, when faced with something or someone that doesn't feel right. Several lives away from the last time he was knight, but he still feels like it's his responsibly to protect others who can't protect themselves and won't hesitate to step into a dangerous situation if it means he can lend a hand.
Because he knows that while this may be the millionth time he's lived, it's the only life most people have. If he can protect it, he will. And who knows? Maybe this cycle is his last, maybe this is the time they win, and they can die of old age in rocking chairs on the porch of a little cabin out in the middle of the woods rather than the violent deaths they often find themselves ending on.
